It's now easier to be more anonymous online with the new Meeco Private Browser Launcher for Firefox. The free Firefox browser add-on allows you to launch the Site Tiles in your My Sites board into individual private browsing sessions. This means that each new window is a cleansed of browser cookies so that any websites you visit do not pass on a record of your previous activity.
What exactly does the privacy launcher do?
Although we have bigger plans for the functionality of the browser extensions, the extent of the functionality is:
- Launch site tiles into a new private window (Firefox) or a new incognito window (chrome)
- Redirects you back to your Meeco dashboard.
Please note: the browser extension does not record any additional data and does not capture and store your browser cookies (like Meeco for iOS does).
Installing the Firefox extension
To get started, click here to install the new Mozilla Firefox plugin¹ and follow the prompts. Within a few moments the add-one will be installed and a Meeco icon will appear in your browser bar. Watch the video below to see how easy it is to install.
Available for Google Chrome
The Meeco Private Browser Launcher is also available for Google Chrome. Go to the My Sites board in your chrome browser and you will be prompted to download and install the plugin. Follow the on screen instructions and the extension will be available for instant use.
How will I know if it is installed?
The My Sites page will display "You have not installed the Meeco privacy extension for Chrome. Do you want to install it?" if your browser does not have the extension or add-on installed. The page will then prompt you again should you attempt to open a Site Tile without it installed.
What happens if I choose to ignore the prompts and load the website?
Should you choose to ignore the prompts, your Site Tile will launch into a new "non-private" tab or browser window as it normally would. The click of a Site Tile will still register an event in the Activity Feed of your My Insights, but your session will not be as anonymous. You would be effectively be browsing like you might normally do.
